Effects of CO, Concentration, Light Intensity and Nutrient Level on the Growth of Leaf Lettuce in a Plant Factory

Abstract
We determined environmental factors reguired for optimal leaf lettuce growth (Lactuca saliva L. var. crispa cv. Grand Rapids) in a plant factory. Leaf lettuces were allowed to grown under different CO©ü concentrations, light intensities and nutrient levels in environmentally controlled room. Photosynthetic rate was increased by CO©ü enrichment and high light intensity. Growth rate was maximum at 1000 and 2000 §·¡¤L^(-1) of CO©ü. Under CO©ü enrichment, optimum light intensity was determined to be above 200 ¥ì§ß¡¤m^(-2)¡¤s^(-1), but nutrient levels did not affect growth rate.
